Two Worshipful Masters of Elopura Lodge Reflect on Their Masonic Journey, 2025–2026

Year 2025 – Worshipful Master: W. Bro. Paul H. J. Wong

Having been initiated only in 2015, I would hardly presume to speak on behalf of Elopura Lodge as a brother of merely ten years’ standing. Yet those ten years have given me much to be grateful for: the opportunity to travel across the District, attend meetings at sister lodges and lodges of sister constitutions, and above all, get to know brethren, old friends and new faces alike.

As most Elopura members would say, we are a country lodge – one rooted in a close-knit community. Perhaps it is this very setting that has quietly shaped us, because the unspoken and unwritten lesson our members seem to have absorbed is to acknowledge differences, accept one another, and remain content – to live always on the square, however much we may disagree on any matter. That, in essence, is the Freemasonry I have come to know through Elopura.

My year in the Master’s Chair began in early 2025 and unfolded at the familiar Elopura pace, complete with the warm fellowship before and after meetings, and our twelve (12) regular ritual workings throughout the year. On the charitable front, we were glad to raise funds both for our own lodge purposes and for causes beyond the craft. These efforts went towards “Project Paitan,” which brought solar refrigerators, freezers, and lighting to unelectrified boarding facilities serving rural school children. We also extended assistance to our caretaker’s family members who were facing health difficulties, as well as to victims of the Sabah Flood Disaster – the most severe flooding the state had seen in recent memory. Additionally, our lodge benevolent fund, supported by the District, contributed towards the cancer treatment of one of our own brethren.

Year 2026 – Worshipful Master: W. Bro. Calvin K. F. Yin

My mastership commenced in January 2026, as I succeeded my predecessor, W. Bro. Paul HJ Wong, who served with great distinction on King Solomon’s Chair.

Since my installation as Master of Elopura Lodge No. 7545 EC, I have mapped out my goals for the full year of my mastership, which include the following:

Workings for the Elopura Lodge:

a. Initiate at least two candidates. One candidate was initiated in March 2026.

b. Pass two candidates.

c. Raise one candidate.

Official Visitations

a. Visit the other five lodges in Sabah.

b. Visit two lodges in West Malaysia.

c. Attend the Half-Yearly Communication in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

d. Attend the Annual Communication in Thailand.

In addition to our scheduled lodge workings, Elopura Lodge remains committed to charitable giving and service to the wider community. We intend to contribute to relief efforts for the Paitan flood disaster, and to work hand in hand with the other five lodges in Sabah in responding to disaster situations across the state.

On the social front, Elopura Lodge is looking forward to hosting a Ladies’ Night and a Christmas Party for the brethren and prospective candidates. We are also exploring the possibility of organising a public blood donation drive to reach beyond the lodge doors.
