Investiture Week 2026 – Fellowship, Service and Distinction

For Freemasons throughout the world, the final week of April has become synonymous with pilgrimage. It is a time when brethren from every corner of the Constitution make their way to London, the home of the United Grand Lodge of England, to participate in the Annual Investiture Meeting and the many events that surround it.
This year, the District Grand Lodge of the Eastern Archipelago was proudly represented by a contingent of thirty-six brethren led by our District Grand Master, RW Bro Mahathir Mahzan. Arriving in London between 25 and 26 April 2026, the brethren embarked on what would become an unforgettable week of fellowship, ceremonial excellence, recognition and celebration.
What follows is a chronicle of those memorable days.

Arrival in London and Reunion with Lodge Malaya
For many brethren, London had become a familiar destination. Yet each arrival carried the same sense of anticipation. Some arrived directly from Malaysia and Singapore, while others travelled from different parts of the District and beyond.
By Sunday evening, brethren and their spouses gathered at New Loon Fung restaurant in Gerrard Street at the invitation of Lodge Malaya.
The dinner was generously hosted by the brethren of Lodge Malaya, continuing a tradition of friendship that stretches back many years. The atmosphere was relaxed and convivial from the outset. Brethren who had not met since the previous Investiture renewed acquaintances immediately, while newer members found themselves welcomed into conversations as though they had always been part of the circle.
Stories flowed freely across the tables. Discussions ranged from lodge affairs and district activities to travel experiences and memories of previous London visits. The presence of spouses added warmth and vibrancy to the gathering.
The evening served as the perfect prelude to the busy programme that lay ahead.
Freemasons’ Hall – The Spiritual Home of English Freemasonry
Before recounting the week's events, it is impossible not to pause and reflect upon the remarkable building that served as the focal point for many of them.
Standing proudly on Great Queen Street in Covent Garden, Freemasons' Hall has served as the headquarters of the United Grand Lodge of England since 1776. The site has evolved through three distinct buildings, with the current striking structure built between 1927 and 1933 as a memorial to fallen World War I Freemasons, and it remains one of London's finest examples of Art Deco architecture.
For visiting brethren, entering the building is always an inspiring experience. Massive bronze doors open onto soaring marble vestibules, richly decorated chambers and some of the most impressive ceremonial spaces in Freemasonry.
The Grand Temple, capable of accommodating more than 1,700 brethren, is the centrepiece of the building and the venue for the Annual Investiture Meeting. Its magnificent organ, mosaic floors, marble walls and elaborate ceiling create an atmosphere that combines solemnity with grandeur.
The building also houses numerous lodge rooms, each individually designed and equipped for regular meetings.The Museum of Freemasonry offers visitors a fascinating journey through the history of the Craft, while the Masonic shop remains a favourite destination for brethren seeking books, regalia, jewels and souvenirs.
For every Mason, Freemasons' Hall represents far more than a building—it represents continuity, heritage and the enduring traditions of the Craft.

Eastern Archipelago Takes the Chair at Lodge Malaya
Monday evening provided one of the week's most memorable Masonic experiences.
Brethren gathered in Lodge Room No. 16 within Freemasons' Hall for the regular meeting of Lodge Malaya No 5213. In a remarkable display of friendship and trust, Lodge Malaya invited the Eastern Archipelago brethren to assume the principal offices and conduct the Third Degree ceremony.
Two candidates, Bro Karl Wintroop Cajucom and Bro Christian Joyce Yecyec, were raised to the sublime degree of Master Masons. The ceremony was conducted with exceptional precision and dignity, showcasing the ritual excellence for which the Eastern Archipelago has become renowned.
The floor work was executed to perfection by a stellar group of senior brethren led by RW Bro Mahathir Mahzan, RW Bro Dato Jeyaray Ratnaswamy, VW Bro Dato Rajasegaran, WBro David Rose, WB SK Yeo, WB Ramesh Rajaratnam and Bro Mico Reyes.
The candidates received a ceremony that reflected the very best traditions of English Freemasonry. Numerous brethren present later commented on the quality of the ritual and the seamless manner in which the visiting officers assumed their respective roles.
Following the meeting, all retired to the Thistle Holborn Hotel for the festive board.
The speeches were heartfelt, the toasts enthusiastically received, and the atmosphere one of genuine friendship.
Yet the evening had not reached its conclusion
The Ship Tavern and the Holborn Fellowship
As the formal proceedings ended, a sizeable contingent proceeded to the historic Ship Tavern in Holborn.
Established in 1549 and occupying a site associated with London's coaching inns, the Ship Tavern provided the perfect setting for continued fellowship. Conversations became increasingly animated as brethren exchanged stories and reflected upon the evening's successful ceremony.
Eventually, however, closing time arrived.
The management politely reminded the brethren that the establishment would soon be shutting its doors. Undeterred, and assisted by the availability of plastic cups, the gathering simply migrated to the adjacent alleyway where discussions continued beneath the London night sky.
It was one of those spontaneous moments that cannot be planned but which often become the most fondly remembered.

The International Gathering at the Vestibules
Tuesday evening saw the return of a much-loved Investiture tradition.
Brethren from overseas districts and constitutions assembled in the Vestibules of Freemasons' Hall for an informal reception hosted by United Grand Lodge.
Wine and refreshments were provided while brethren from around the world mingled freely beneath the magnificent marble surroundings.
The atmosphere was distinctly international. Conversations flowed effortlessly between brethren who shared little common geography but a great deal of common purpose.
Old friendships were renewed and new ones established.
The gathering perfectly illustrated Freemasonry's unique ability to unite men of different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities.
Onward to The George
As the official reception concluded, many brethren continued their evening at The George.
The pub quickly became an extension of the Vestibules, albeit a rather less formal one.
There, over refreshments and good company, discussions continued well into the evening. Plans were made for future visits, lodge exchanges and district events. More importantly, friendships were strengthened.

The Annual Investiture Meeting of Grand Lodge
Wednesday represented the principal reason for the journey.
The Grand Temple was filled to capacity as brethren assembled for the Annual Investiture Meeting of the United Grand Lodge of England.
Presiding over the proceedings was the Most Worshipful Grand Master, HRH The Duke of Kent, whose presence added distinction and continuity to the occasion.
The ceremony was conducted with all the splendour and precision for which Grand Lodge is renowned. Brethren receiving first appointments and promotions experienced a moment that many had anticipated for years.
Among those honoured were several brethren from the District Grand Lodge of the Eastern Archipelago, whose service to the Craft had been recognised through appointment or promotion to Grand Rank.
The atmosphere throughout the ceremony was one of dignity, pride and celebration.
Following the Investiture, newly invested Grand Officers attended the traditional reception at the Guildhall.
The National Liberal Club
Those not attending Guildhall found themselves at another remarkable venue—the National Liberal Club.
Founded in 1882 and closely associated with Liberal Prime Minister William Gladstone, the club occupies one of London's most impressive Victorian buildings overlooking the Thames.
Designed by Alfred Waterhouse, architect of the Natural History Museum, the building is renowned for its elaborate interiors, grand staircase, ornate ceilings and historic library.
For the Eastern Archipelago brethren, it became the ideal venue for refreshment after an intense morning of ceremonial splendour.
Comfortable surroundings, excellent hospitality and stimulating conversation ensured that the evening passed all too quickly.
Many brethren remarked that the club's atmosphere perfectly complemented the grandeur of the morning's proceedings.

Supreme Grand Chapter Investiture
For many companions, the week's final highlight came on Thursday morning.
At 11.00 a.m., companions assembled once again at Freemasons' Hall for the Annual Investiture Meeting of Supreme Grand Chapter. While the previous day had celebrated achievements within the Craft, this occasion recognised service and distinction within the Holy Royal Arch.
The ceremony was every bit as impressive as its Craft counterpart. The Temple was filled with companions from across England and the overseas districts, their colourful regalia creating a magnificent spectacle against the backdrop of the Grand Temple.
Several companions from the Eastern Archipelago received first appointments and promotions in Grand Chapter rank, representing important milestones in their Royal Arch journeys.
For those receiving honours, it was an occasion that will remain unforgettable. To be invested within the spiritual home of English Freemasonry, surrounded by companions from around the world, is a rare privilege indeed.
The appointments and promotions reflected years of dedicated service and commitment to Royal Arch Masonry throughout the District. As the ceremony concluded, companions gathered for photographs, congratulations and farewells, bringing Investiture Week 2026 to its formal conclusion.
Reflections
As flights departed and suitcases were packed, the memories created during Investiture Week remained vivid.
The raising ceremony at Lodge Malaya.
The laughter shared at the Ship Tavern.
The international fellowship within the Vestibules.
The magnificence of Grand Lodge.
The grandeur of the National Liberal Club.
The dignity of Supreme Grand Chapter.
And above all, the friendships strengthened throughout the week. The District Grand Lodge of the Eastern Archipelago was represented with distinction by thirty-six brethren under the leadership of RW Bro Mahathir Mahzan. Through ritual excellence, fellowship and service, they demonstrated once again the values that continue to define our District.
For those who attended, Investiture Week 2026 was not simply a series of events.
It was a celebration of brotherhood itself.
