District Grand Charity Jewel
Introduction of the Charity Jewel
The concept for the District Grand Charity Jewel was initiated several years ago due to the need to support educational programs for underprivileged students, particularly in Singapore.
The District Grand Lodge of the Eastern Archipelago launched a foundation to help raise funds for these causes.
Purpose of the Jewel
Members of the District can voluntarily purchase the Charity Jewel to be worn during Lodge meetings.
The design incorporates significant Masonic symbols, such as the square and compasses, which represent morality, spirituality, and intellectual duties toward humanity.
Design and Symbolism
The ribbon is Sky Blue, symbolizing Masonic perfection and the pursuit of its fulfillment.
Above the jewel is a metal bar (bronze, silver, or gold), representing the noble cause that the funds raised will support.
Importance and Historical Significance
This is the first time in 160 years that the District Grand Lodge has introduced such a charity initiative.
The jewel acknowledges a Brother’s commitment to charity and the Masonic craft.
Call for Contributions
Brethren are encouraged to contribute towards the fund, which supports both Masonic and non-Masonic charities.
The new foundation in Singapore will be a key beneficiary of the funds raised.
Impact of the Initiative
The Joseph William Yee Eu Foundation, funded by contributions from the Brethren, has been helping educate underprivileged children for over 25 years.
Final Appeal
The District Grandmaster, Right Worshipful Brother Dato Jeyaraj Ratnaswamy, expresses gratitude for the Brethren's ongoing support and urges them to continue their charitable efforts.
