His life and his myriad achievements in diverse fields, including philosophy, statecraft and science. He was arguably one of the foremost minds of his generation leaving a lasting impact across a broad spectrum of fields of human endeavour. I shall also touch briefly on the oft-repeated theory that he was, in fact, William Shakespeare too! His Masonic connections, speculative as they may be, will not take centre=stage in my discourse as that would not be in consonance with the aims and objectives of our Lodge Scientia, with its professed focus on research into the hidden mysteries of nature and science, through the study of the liberal arts and sciences.
