“W. Master, I now present to your notice the Hall Stone Jewel, which was conferred on this Lodge by the Most Worshipful Grand Master. You will observe that its form is symbolic, for on the side squares are inscribed the dates 1914-1918; four years of supreme sacrifice. In the centre is a winged figure representing Peace, supporting a Temple. This symbolises the gift made by the English Craft of a new Temple in memory of those Brethren who made the supreme sacrifice in the cau
When I went through my Second Degree and heard those words from the Worshipful Master, I was puzzled by them. Having been a university teacher and medical researcher for 13 years, and a member of the Singapore Medical Research Council for 5 years, why do I need any permission from the Worshipful Master to do research into the hidden mysteries of Nature and Science? That has puzzled me for many years. In 2010, as part of my duties as the District Grand Mentor, I was in London
“Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.” Kathy Calvin During the moment of last year (2016-2017), our Worshipful Master then – W. Bro. Paul Morach, had initiated a program to provide breakfast meals to poor school-going children to ensure that less financially able school-going children receive at least one decent meal per day during their schooling hours. Amongst the Brethren of our Lodge, and over the course of 5 days in the year 2017,
When Labour is done for the love of pure Labour, The Labour is sweet to enjoy and to savour. When Labour is done for the want of Reward, The Labour is weighty, the bane of one's Lot. O Lord let my work be done not for favour, But love of the Craft, should bring forth that Labour, My work, may it be, like that awesome Keystone, Though spurned at first sight, but was later enthroned. Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth vibrate In our minds and souls, and thus liberate Us from our
I heard three knocks on the Temple door, and then it was opened wide: I felt the grip of a Masons hand, as I slowly passed inside. I was lowered down on bended knees, as a prayer was said for me: And I was helped to pass around, for the Brethren all to see. And all to me was black as night, as my leader took me round: And my racing heart, I heard more clear, than the solemn organ's sound. My faltering footsteps here and there, were halted on the way; And several questions wer
In the course of the history of Humankind, all esoteric philosophical systems have developed a number of built-in “safety valves” or “traps”, by which they are capable of expelling all possible intruders. Beyond all conventional initiations, these systems contain hidden “trials” for those who must be further tested, in order to verify their spiritual stamina. It goes without saying that such tests have no similarity, whatsoever, with the conventional initiation types of the v

I hated to hear the lawyer say
The things my grandpa gave away.
Like his old truck to Dad and Mom
And world war medals to Uncle John
My name was called
And something was said
About an old wooden box
Underneath his bed.
Just a worn out chest
With a rusty hinge
But I knew Grandpa kept
Something special within.
When I opened the lid
All I could see
Were some unused tools
And a letter to me.
A large fancy cloth
With two long strings
A small wooden hammer
